It seems like every minute, DJ Suga Ray’s star just keeps rising.

Born in Jamaica, Raymond Chambers moved with his family to Florida as a young child. Growing up, Ray was surrounded by the rhythmic beats of Caribbean music, thanks to his father, who would spin records during family gatherings and New Year’s Eve parties. Their home was transformed into a mini nightclub, complete with lighting and all the right gear—a playground for young Ray’s budding passion. The rich sounds of soul and reggae that filled the streets of Miami were early influences, but it wasn’t until Ray moved to New York for college at the School of Visual Arts that his love for music really took off.

In his dorm room, DJ Suga Ray found himself increasingly drawn to the art of DJing. What started as casual spins soon turned into an obsession with the craft, as he immersed himself in the techniques of the 1990s turntablists and began mastering the art of mixing, scratching, and blending sounds. His passion caught fire, and local gigs started rolling in, leading to a momentous turning point: in 2002, Britney Spears herself tapped him to DJ at a charity event in Cape Cod. This gig marked the beginning of his rise to stardom, and he became the annual DJ for Spears’ summer camp for children.

The Tribeca Film Festival soon came calling, and by 2004, DJ Suga Ray was the official DJ for the festival’s coveted afterparty. That same year, he was invited to DJ Mayor Bloomberg's yearly picnic—an event he’s been a fixture at ever since. Soon, A-list celebrities like Matt Damon, Robert De Niro, Jennifer Aniston, and Ludacris were seeking him out for their most exclusive and glamorous parties.  His impressive track record also includes a current 12-year run as the DJ for Tiger Woods' TGR Foundation, providing the soundtrack for some of its most prestigious events.

Known for his quick cuts, electrifying live remixes, and ability to seamlessly transition between musical genres, DJ Suga Ray has set himself apart in a city saturated with DJs. By 2007, he was regularly booked by major brands like HBO, Google, and W Hotels, adding corporate residencies to his growing list of accomplishments.
